Fever Originals commissioned design agency Bearded Kitten to create a live-action spin-off of the acclaimed Netflix Money Heist series. Recognising our expertise in immersive lighting and sensory design, Bearded Kitten brought in Bailes+Light to help drive the story’s tension and drama.
We designed the full lighting scheme for the experience, along with kinetic and escape-game interactive elements, including a laser maze. We introduced wireless actor-triggered cues to assist with interactive gameplay and audience movement, and fully integrated our technology into the show control system. Working in the former Christie’s auction house, for the initial scenes we adapted existing architectural lighting to make it suitable for theatre. From the basement entrance where the Heist began, we used a variety of bespoke light fixtures built in our workshop to support the initial world-building. During one of the key action scenes, we animated 60 discreet spotlights to track performers’ movements across a dimly lit space, synchronising bursts of light with sound effects of punches and gunshots. As audiences approached the Vault and explosions rang out, our lights would flicker and swing, building tension with darkness and motion as the experience reached its finale. In the 2022 Campaign Magazine UK Experience Awards, Money Heist: The Experience was awarded Gold across categories Global Brand Activation, The Game Changer, Production Experience and Creative Event of the Year.
