Fire in the Mountain Festival: Stage Lanterns TESTFire in the Mountain, 2025

As a thriving small festival hidden in the Welsh Mountains, Fire in the Mountain folk festival has no trouble in bringing in new audiences to enjoy an energetic but nourishing retreat. Building on Welsh blanket designs initiated the previous year by architect Tabitha Pope, Courtyard Stage lighting designer Benji Bailes wanted to create a new identity for the stage by adapting this traditional pattern into a canopy of geometric lanterns.

In the run-up to the 2025 festival, Bailes+Light collaborated with the decor team to design a selection of lanterns made from coloured acrylic triangles, each with a bespoke lamp base and structure designed to withstand the challenges of the Welsh weather.

We were able to individually map each lantern and program a variety of dynamic patterns to create a show with a magical flare that fit the festival. Each component of the lantern we crafted and fabricated in our workshop. You can read more about our workshop services here.
